How to Contact and Follow your State Legislators
Step #1:
Finding Your State Senator and Representative
Find out who is representing you in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
1. Go to this site: https://www.legis.iow.gov/legislators/find
2. Type in your address to the search bar.
3. Click the search button.
That's all! You are done! Good Job!
Step #2:
Make a Advocacy Notebook
1. Grab a blank notebook or journal and label it with your group name, our is "Iowans For Informed Consent"
2. On one page, write down your Senator's name and District number at the top.
3. On the next page, write down your Representative's name and District number at the top.
For those who do not like pen and paper, or if you think a notebook might get lost in that paper jungle on your desk, just start a "Notes" tab on your phone. One note or section for each legislator.
Step #3:
Connecting
Now that you know who is representing you, let's connect with them! Most Legislators have Facebook or other social media pages.
1. Find your Senator and Representative's Facebook page.
2. Click "Like" it and "Follow" it.
3. Click on the "Follow" button and then Click "see first."
You can also look for them on other social media, like Instagram and Twitter.
